Paw Patrol – Mighty Pups
The Blurb On The Back:
When Harold Humdinger turns Cap’n Turbot’s Lighthouse into a space rocket, he doesn’t realise the captain is trapped inside!
Join the Mighty Pups as they use their superpowers to hep with a Charged Up rescue!
When Harold Humdinger discovers a meteor on the beach, he realises he can use Cap’n Turbot’s lighthouse to fly into space. What he doesn’t realise though is that Cap’n Turbot is still inside! Fortunately the Paw Patrol are able to come to the rescue to get back Cap’n Turbot and his lighthouse!
This board book for younger readers is a bit of a disappointment as both the story and the language comes across as too sophisticated for the board book form while the illustrations are computer generated and somewhat soulless. If you have a young Paw Patrol fan then they will enjoy seeing the pups using their powers, but otherwise I don’t think it’s worth their time.
It isn’t clear to me if this board book is based on a Paw Patrol episode as there’s no information within the book. The story is actually surprisingly sophisticated for a board book - Harold Humdinger finds a meteor that somehow gives him the power to turn Cap’n Turbot’s lighthouse into a space rocket (this is not explained at all). Fortunately he’s spotted by Francois who calls the Paw Patrol for help.
Some of the language seems too complicated for board book readers (e.g. tractor beam) and there are a number of gaps in the story, which probably won’t annoy young readers but may bother any adults reading along with them. Paw Patrol fans will get more of a buzz seeing their favourite characters and on the plus side, there is a lot of action here that they will enjoy.
Physically the book is a good size for smaller hands and is well put together. I didn’t like the pictures much as they seem computer generated and do not have much character to them, but again younger readers will enjoy seeing the characters they are familiar with.
All in all, I think dedicated young Paw Patrol fans may enjoy this but for the price, I think there are better and more creative board books on the market that they are likely to enjoy for longer.
The Verdict:
This board book for younger readers is a bit of a disappointment as both the story and the language comes across as too sophisticated for the board book form while the illustrations are computer generated and somewhat soulless. If you have a young Paw Patrol fan then they will enjoy seeing the pups using their powers, but otherwise I don’t think it’s worth their time
PAW PATROL - MIGHTY PUPS was released in the United Kingdom on 25th April 2024. Thanks to the Amazon Vine Programme for the review copy of this book.
