The Review (Cut For Spoilers): )

The Verdict:

This CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE style novel is the first in an illustrated series for readers aged 8+ by Craig Graham and Mike Stirling. It’s a lot of fun, giving readers the chance to hang out with Dennis and chums and offering laugh out loud moments while fleshing out Walter and his flunkies. My only complaint is Vivian Truong’s Manga-style approach to the characters’ eyes, which took my out of the experience (although otherwise work well).

BEANO - THE DAY THE TEACHERS DISAPPEARED was released in the United Kingdom on 4th January 2024. Thanks to the Amazon Vine Programme for the review copy of this book.

The Review (Cut For Spoilers): )

The Verdict:

The 6th in Craig Graham and Mike Stirling’s “Boomic” Beano spin-off series for readers aged 8+ is a madcap chase caper filled with more poo jokes than you can put in a nappy. Nigel Parkinson’s illustrations continue to impress (with a picture linked to a poo joke making me genuinely laugh out loud) and I enjoyed meeting more of Dennis’s friends in a story that works for both young readers, reluctant readers and (much) older readers too.

BEANO DENNIS & GNASHER - LITTLE MENACE’S GREAT ESCAPE was released in the United Kingdom on 13th April 2023. Thanks to the Amazon Vine Programme for the review copy of this book.
The Blurb On The Back:

The Review (Cut For Spoilers): )

The Verdict:

The 5th in Craig Graham and Mike Stirling’s “Boomic” Beano spin-off series for readers aged 8+ is a spooky affair filled with more snot than you can shake a Kleenex at. Nigel Parkinson’s illustrations work well with the text and although some of the characters look different to when I read the comics *cough cough* years ago but that’s no bad thing. This is a great, silly series that would work well with reluctant readers.

The Blurb On The Back:

More jokes! More laughs! More mischief!

The most spectacular Beano Boomic yet!

What could possibly go wrong when Dennis, Gnasher and their classmates undertake a risky experiment to create the ultimate slime?

EVERYTHING!

Join them, in a race against slime to save Beanotown?

The Review (Cut For Spoilers): )

The Verdict:

The 4th in Craig Graham and Mike Stirling’s “boomic” Beano spin-off series for readers aged 8+ is another rude and naughty giggle fest with plenty of fart jokes and pranks and it’s good to see that Dennis’s diverse friends are willing to engage in disgraceful behaviour. Nigel Parkinson’s illustrations stay true to the comic while bringing dimension to the text, I enjoyed the manic energy on display and would definitely read more in this series.

BEANO DENNIS & GNASHER: SUPER SLIME SPECTACULAR was released in the United Kingdom on 7th July 2022. Thanks to the Amazon Vine Programme for the review copy of this book.
The Blurb On The Back:

This is the ultimate story, told with funny pictures!

Can ten-year old kids really outwit the most cunning teachers in the universe and, after millions of years, finally make school cool?

It’s an SOS: Save Our School!

When mysterious new teachers arrive to lay down the law at notoriously naughty Bash Street School, Dennis, Gnasher and friends finally face a test they simply can’t afford to fail.

The Review (Cut For Spoilers): )

The Verdict:

Craig Graham and Mike Stirling’s funny novel for readers aged 8+ (the first in a new spin-off series from the Beano comic with great illustrations by Nigel Parkinson) has a more modern, diverse Beantown with less corporal punishment than when I read the comic but that’s definitely no bad thing and it retains its core of anti-authoritarian silliness and pranks. It would particularly suit kids who love the comic but are reluctant to tackle books.

BEANO DENNIS & GNASHER: THE BATTLE FOR BASH STREET SCHOOL was released in the United Kingdom on 8th July 2021. Thanks to the Amazon Vine Programme for the review copy of this book.
