I was a bit cynical about this Father’s Day tie-in book, but it’s actually been done very thoughtfully with Richau and Zehr drawing on a variety of Star Wars series and making some quite sensitive points about parenting and how to navigate it. If you have a Star Wars loving father, then this would be a good gift for them.
The book is divided into 5 sections:
- Mentoring
- Encouragement
- Lessons Learnt
- Trust
- Acceptance
Each section uses a variety of Star Wars characters from the 9 films and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch to discuss an element of parenting or caregiving that relates to that character. It’s actually really cleverly done with the text drawing a link between the character and how it relates to the parenting/caregiving issue and at some points it’s actually quite moving and elevates it above a lot of these type of tie in books.
If I have one criticism, it’s that the cover price of £7.99 is pricey for what you’re getting given this book isn’t even 100 pages so you’re paying for the photos. That said, if you’re looking for a present for a Star Wars obsessed dad in your life, then this book would make a good gift and is worth considering.
