The Blurb On The Back:
Little Experts is an unmissable non-fiction series that will empower and inspire a new generation of experts.
Get up close to nature with Chris Packham CBE and encounter the amazing animal superheroes that will help us save the world - from ants and bats to sharks, wasps and dogs.
Chris Packham is a naturalist, conservationist and TV presenter. This entertaining book for readers aged 6+ (part of the LITTLE EXPERTS series and superbly illustrated by Anders Frang) does a great job of showing the diversity of life on Earth, including vultures, the humble worm and even wasps. Packham’s enthusiasm shines through and it wouldn’t surprise me if this book leads to a new generation of naturalists and conversationists.
Packham takes a very straight forward approach to looking at wild life in this book. Every animal has something remarkable about them, e.g. worms who eat up toxic metals that could otherwise end up in the food chain, sharks who help maintain biodiversity in the oceans and ants, which can be farmed to provide protein and fatty acids in a way that is more sustainable than other farming methods. What I really enjoyed about this book is that it’s not all cute animals, Packham finds things of interest in creatures like vultures and wasps and frogs (and as someone who is a big fan of axolotls, I was very pleased to see them get a name check).
Andrew Frang’s illustrations work really well with the text. He manages to give the animals a bit of a personality - notably the dogs, primates and the bats.
All in all I think there’s a lot in here that would inspire a future generation of conservationists and naturalists because Packham’s love of the natural world is just infectious and he really makes you think of nature in a different way.
The Verdict:
