The Blurb On The Back:
’Good morning, Eeyore,’ shouted Piglet.
‘Good morning, Little Piglet,’ said Eeyore.
‘If it is a good a good morning,’ he said.
‘Which I doubt,’ said he.
‘Not that it matters,’ he said.
This gently-humorous collection of A. A. Milne’s most melancholy moanings will bring a smile to the face of even the grumpiest Eeyore.
This gift book is a collection of extracts from A A Milne’s classic Winnie-the-Pooh books (complete with the original charming illustrations by E H Shepard) themed around gloom and pessimism. Eeyore naturally dominates proceedings so this would be a good gift for Eeyore fans but to be honest, it’s such an obvious cash-in on the Milne titles that I couldn’t help but think you’d be better off just buying the originals.
Eeyore has always been my favourite character in Winnie-the-Pooh and he does heavily feature in this gift book, which I liked (especially his encounter with Tigger). There’s also some fun to be had from guessing which book the extracts are from and E H Shepard’s timeless illustrations are utterly charming. However I do find this a bit of a cynical exercise in cashing in on the Milne estate and, to be honest, given how much this is I think you’re better off buying the original books instead so you have the joy of the full stories.
The Verdict:
