The Blurb On The Back:
The new king is visiting the MR MEN and LITTLE MISS on his ROYAL TOUR and everyone is very excited.
In HAPPYLAND, Mr Happy and Little Miss Sunshine have planted a special flower display, while in LOUDLAND, Mr Noisy and his band have been practising day and night!
But will everything go to plan and what will be in store for the NEW KING in Nonsenseland?
The new king is making a tour of the Mr Men and Little Miss and they are all very excited. All the various lands are making sure that they’re prepared, cleaning and polishing and preparing parades and even a special banquet. But because this is the Mr Men and the Little Miss, not everything is going to go as planned and the new king may find that he gets a little more than he bargained for on his tour …
Based on his father Roger Hargreaves’s LITTLE MISS and MR MEN SERIES, Adam Hargreaves’s self-illustrated picture book is a fun tie in with the coronation of King Charles III (even if the king in the book is never named) with the Mr Men and Little Miss doing their usual silly antics. It’s particularly fun to see the various Mr Men and Little Miss lands and I think the king would enjoy seeing himself having fun with them all.
A lot of the fun in this book comes from seeing how the various Mr Men and Little Miss prepare for the king’s visit. There’s all the silliness that you would normally expect - I particularly liked how everyone in Nonsenseland painted everything purple and Little Miss Naughty’s trick flower. It’s quite irreverent in respect of the king but it shows him being a good sport and going along with all the nonsense and none of what happens to him is mean spirited. If you’re looking for a Coronation tie-in to read along with your younger reader, then this is one of the better ones.
The Verdict:
