Kit and Andrew Chilvers run the popular Instagram account DadSaysJokes and this book is basically a distillation of it - a load of dad jokes and puns that will make you groan and chuckle. Some of the jokes are so old that they’ve got barnacles on them, a few are US-focused and so may not resonate with UK readers and there are also a couple that don’t work at all. For all that though, it’s more hit than miss and definitely not just for dads.
There isn’t a lot to say about this book. The formatting works well - there are generally 2 to 3 jokes on a page and they’re in quite large script, which makes them easy to read for older readers. Weirdly, there are no page numbers, which I think is a mistake because half the fun of a joke book is being able to easily find jokes to tell to other people. There were some jokes that genuinely made me laugh, more that made me groan and only a couple that left me scratching my head either because they were US focused or the punchline didn’t scan.
That said, there is a joke for everyone in this collection and it should delight and horrify readers of all ages rather than just dads.
